Many people have a very specific impression of Camilla because of the way she acts. Most people see her as a bit of a celebrity, with her high influence, constant media presence, lavish lifestyle, and strictly controlled poise in front of others. Because of this image, people can come up with various conclusions about her. She’s fake. She’s charming. She’s a bitch. She’s hiding something. She’s doing it all for attention. In spite of whatever rumors or personal opinions one has of her, the image she presents to the public doesn’t waver. She still tries to upkeep the presentation of being a composed, thoughtful leader, with a hint of charm and an expensive taste. This isn’t to say she’ll ignore criticisms made against her; in fact, she’ll try to address them as quickly as possible, so as not to leave people wondering.
Camilla appears to have strong control over herself, but she also has a tendency to dictate what others do. Believing it’s her responsibility to push others to do their best, she can put a lot of pressure on others to do exactly as she wishes. Deviation from her expectations may cause her to tighten the reins, even more, hoping to drive it to her desired outcome. Though she enjoys the spotlight, most of her hard work happens behind the scenes, wanting to oversee all the finer parts of an operation, in case if anything goes wrong. The worse things go, the more she worries, and the more she tries to control every aspect in order to feel secure again.
Motivating Camilla’s controlling tendencies is a fear of failure and criticism. She feels the burden of taking on every responsibility associated with her name, even vaguely, and worries about how any mistake could be scrutinized by an outside eye to reflect poorly on her character. Camilla is constantly self-assessing her own actions to find ways to make her appear better. Though she can control her reactions and behavior, she is still ultimately driven by her need to feel secure, and nothing short of perfect can assuage those fears. As such, her response to her own anxiety is to keep working through it, to keep finding more things to fine-tune, to continue to make sure that she and everyone else around her meet only the highest standards. Since she is driven to look out for herself, she often falls into a pattern of ignoring other people’s needs if her own desires come into conflict with them.
Underneath all the glamour, perfectionism, and anxiety, Camilla is a sheltered young woman trying to figure out how to interact best with her world. Few people have found their way beyond the walls she puts up, but she is quite passionate about the core beliefs she holds, muddled as they may be by what she believes other people expect from her. She’s witty, protective, and ultimately trying to do the best for the people she cares about. It’s just going to take a while for her to figure this out.
