Noah Rutherford Jones / The Vessel

Age — 23
Personality
- Negative
[ Paranoid | Abrasive | Confrontational | Irascible | Co-Dependent ]
To say that Noah, at his core, is distrusting and aggressive is an understatement; with a personality largely concocted of a bitter, sour sludge, he is extremely easy to anger and foul-mouthed enough to let you know. His perception of others (especially authority figures) is, at default, negative. A majority of his life has been lived on the assumption that everyone and everything is out to get him- maybe not physically, but even something as simple as someone staring at him for too long makes him incredibly uneasy. What are they thinking? What do they want? Surely nothing good.

This paranoia manifests itself internally with a tendency to overthink and spiral while simultaneously appearing outwardly in the form of aggravated assault. He's more of the "punch first, ask later" kind of guy, so it's best to avoid unnecessary tension. Or don't- he craves it, honestly.

With a history of violent outbursts, behavioral issues, and trouble interacting positively with peers it’s no surprise that he’s socially inept. Up until recently, he truly believed there was no such thing as a good person and though that has changed with age and experience, he’s adopted a tendency to emotionally cling to those he loves. Noah went from viewing life as an absolute blight in his early teens to seeing the world as a “it’s what you make of the cards you’re dealt” situation- given that the cards suck balls and you have to stack ‘em in a way you can survive by.

As an adult, he likes to think he’s moved beyond those macabre and pessimistic childhood ideals- he has to believe that, really, because the idea that the previous version of himself is the truest one frightens him.

= Neutral
[ Blunt | Callous | Quiet ]
Love moves people; it ebbs and flows, pushing against us much like the sea. Sometimes it is gentle, the edge of the water lapping lazily at the shore, sometimes it drowns you. In Noah’s case, it was a slow but steady stream, one that evolved into a river as it cut a canyon out of rock. Yet, in spite of the positive changes in his life, he’s still not a particularly cheerful nor excitable person. Hard to parse, even harder to enjoy, the guy just doesn't care to make good impressions; other people's opinions of him are insignificant.

Generally quiet, he has retained the more callous ways in which he verbally communicates. Diction, tone- none of it is particularly gentle. It’s not that he’s always rude but he very rarely speaks with sensitivity. It’s... an acquired taste, for sure.

However, despite not speaking frequently, when he does say something you can bet your ass it’s nothing but the honest to God truth. He’s direct to a fault, no matter who or what he’s conversing with, and while many see it as him being tactless, he means well. In his eyes, lying to people - even to spare their feelings - is more cruel than being truthful. Impermanence is the only truth and to live in an illusion of one's own creation is nothing but a pitiful attempt to coddle oneself. Life is not so merciful as to let you forget this, so neither will he. Noah expects the same treatment back; those who are overly, insincerely sweet irritate him. Dishonesty, in all its nicely wrapped, lie-pampered bullshit, disgusts him. He prefers people whom he can be a blunt, insensitive asshole with, granted they’ll dish it back.

+ Positive
[ Pragmatic | Perceptive | Honest | Devoted | Steadfast ]
At twenty-three years old, he’s calmed down considerably. While hard to read as a byproduct of his rather reserved demeanor, Noah is nothing if not practical. He doesn’t care to waste time nor finds amusement in long-winded paths; he prefers everything straight to the point, akin to an arrow’s trajectory. Pouring himself entirely into whatever he does, he never half-asses anything. To Noah, it’s all or nothing; either you’re willing to give up everything for the task at hand or you give zilch. Zero. Nada.

This applies to people, too. Though he’s still an antisocial person, his outlook on life has changed and he’s managed to develop a few strong relationships. Still, he can go days without speaking to another human being. It's not so much a dislike of conversing, more so that he simply doesn’t have much to say; avidly preferring to either listen to his surroundings or just pop in his dollar store headphones instead.

Combined with a lingering weariness and distrust of others, this has resulted in Noah being rather perceptive. Though he’s not great at conveying his own emotions, he quickly picks up on slight shifts in other’s moods; whether it be their demeanor, body language, tone, expression, etc. and adapts accordingly to developments in whatever situation they’re placed in. Thanks to the guidance, patience, and kindness of those precious to him, he’s definitely become more open and caring. Still, he finds socializing difficult.

That being said, while it is a painstakingly slow process, once Noah considers you a friend he’s incredibly loyal. Though he loves very little, he is unwavering in his adoration and there's little he wouldn't do for those deemed special. While not fearless in a sense of lacking it entirely, mama didn't raise no bitch so Noah's always going to barrel through whatever it takes to ensure his goals are met. Dedication and devotion are virtues he believes in deeply, thus he will always choose whatever is in his beloved's best interest—regardless of how it affects himself or others.
