Veronyk Courté-Reale / The Dilettante
by Thresher
Age — 26
Personality
+ Positive
Motherly, Fond of the Mundane, Patient, Candid, Animated
At a glance, some wouldn’t expect the oxymoronic neutral-colors-wearing, colorful-pastels-adorned man to be much more forthcoming than the average belligerent young adult with something uncouth to say about society... Well, that was true a few years ago- but! He’s become far more straight-laced. To an extent. Veronyk’s outward appearance is so thinly aesthetically inspired, near opposite to his tolerance for inconvenience. He does not think twice when someone does not also say “Have a good day” in good cheer, but remembers to say it himself. Because, if he doesn’t, what would be more a betrayal to himself than refusing to do little things that mean nothing ultimately, but do so much for his image of normalcy? Shouldn’t everyone get a small dose of “I care!” thrown their way every once in a while? He wouldn’t want to brush anyone off so rudely, right?
Yes, far too attached to social performance and just grounded enough to not be a romanticist, but quite the opposite of someone engrossed in escapism. He attends to daily life just like an anybody should, naturally. Why wouldn’t he enjoy waiting hours (minutes, really, but who’s counting?) getting lost in time at grocery lines that are a tad too long, or staring out the window of a tall building just to get dizzy from the unimaginably vulnerable height, or gawking at a particularly slow-moving ant on the wall? Absent-mindedly, those are some of the things that make him smile most. If the world wasn’t full of small, normal things, the world wouldn’t be good at all.
- Negative
Cowardly, Impulsive, Ditzy, Childish
Despite his mellowed demeanor, don’t let the ever-present grin and brutally bubbly honesty distract you from the contrarian antics he’s prone to pull. While he isn’t one to make a habit of lying, Veronyk does know that withholding information is just as effective a dupe and not exactly the same stain on character as a true white lie. More often than not he is either pulling down the curtain of confrontation avoidance, and building a third act of Gotchas or fixing a surely minor problem some other time, behind that wall.
He’s far sooner to pull the thread of the metaphorical sweater loose several inches before the common sense lagging behind in his head reminds him leaving someone without seams spells insult to injury. Oh! He didn’t really mean to embarrass you in front of your coworkers with a sharp, thoughtless jab- but it was definitely meant for you to hear. Smug, on most occasions, doesn’t describe the attitude he has. Why... He’s just incredibly unlucky and circumstances notwithstanding, would have totally done something much better to get your mind off thinking such troublesome things. Why not get over this minor setback (that he may or may not have caused) with some ice cream and Cabernet? And thus concludes that play's showing, no harm- no foul..!
